The Witcher without Henry Cavill: how will Netflix manage the replacement of its star in season 4? These are our theories!

This is the question that is on everyone’s lips of The Witcher fans after the release of season 3 on Netflix.

That’s it, Netflix has released the last part of season 3 of The Witcher, and this is the last time we will see Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt of Rivia. The former Superman will never put on the Witcher costume again in the Netflix adaptation and gives way to Liam Hemsworth from season 4.

As we explained to you in this article, Cavill leaves by the small door in a scene without great brilliance, in which we see him sinking into the forest, in search of Ciri (Freya Allan). A part 2 that doesn’t really look like a farewell and that doesn’t at all prepare the ground for the arrival of his replacement.

How will Netflix handle this major change?

Assumption number 1: nothing changes

The first hypothesis that we can imagine is that Netflix is not going to change anything in season 4. Geralt de Riv will return to our screens with a brand new face, without this being explained. A technique that has already been used in film and television and which can make sense, especially if Cavill left the series after the filming of season 3.

Season 4, whose filming was to begin in September before the raging strike in Hollywood, should adapt the 5th opus of the literary saga, titled The Baptism of Fire. When Geralt learns that Ciri is being held captive by the Emperor of Nilfgaard, he rushes to her rescue without a second of hesitation, despite his injuries.

On his dangerous journey, he will be accompanied by Dandelion, his faithful bard friend, and other fortune-telling companions. They won’t be too many, because the war is raging on all sides, and the surviving magicians try to save the future of magic… In the Netflix series, Ciri is not in the hands of her father but lives in hiding, not far from here. She indeed joins the band of Rats where she evolves under the name of Falka.

But this hypothesis does not seem to hold water since one of the producers of The Witcher made it known that they had a plan for replacement by Henry Cavill by Liam Hemsworth…

Hypothesis number 2: a change of point of view

One of the main themes of The Witcher is that each story can be told from several different points of view. And sometimes these points of view can give different versions, which are far from reality.“: these are the words that were given by the producer Tomek Baginski to The Express.

According to the website Redanian Intelligence, the writers of The Witcher could jump into the future, at a time when the history of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer is studied at school. Teachers and students therefore do not know what the Witcher really looks like. By opting for a different narrator in season 4, the physical appearance of the Witcher could logically change…

If this theory is quite confusing and far-fetched for those who have not read Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, it is the most probable hypothesis if we listen to what Baginski says. In a second interview, the producer teased that The Witcher lore doesn’t just contain “one world”.

It is indeed known that Ciri can cross through realities and eras thanks to her power. But that doesn’t mean it’s a multiverse, even if the scriptwriters can play on the very meaning of these time travels…

We will have to wait at least 2024 to have the real first info on season 4 of The Witcher.
