these 5 departments where health insurance costs you the most

Being in good health is becoming more and more expensive: 3,000 euros per year on average for a couple in their sixties in 2023. But in certain departments, the bill is even higher.

Health, a luxury reserved for the rich? Without going that far, it is clear that treatment is becoming more and more expensive, especially for seniors. A study published this Tuesday, September 26 by Meilleurtaux Assurances thus shows an increase of almost 5% in health contributions for a 60-year-old senior couple wanting enhanced guarantees.

The year 2023 is again marked by price increases and this trend is not about to be reversed with health spending increasing each year due, in particular, to the aging of the population. Especially since transfers of costs from health insurance to supplementary health insurance are planned as part of an extension of 100% Health, indicates Samuel Bansard, president of Meilleurtaux Assurances.

Health is the most expensive in Paris

If the average monthly cost for a senior couple in their sixties is 252.66 euros in 2023 (or 3,031 euros per year), in certain departments, the bill comes close to 300 euros per month. This is for example the case in Paris (285.26 euros), in Hauts-de-Seine (284.20euros), in the Alpes-Maritimes (280.13euros), in Val-de-Marne (278.73euros) or in Bouches-du-Rhne (278.31euros ). Good news on the contrary for insurers in Moselle (195.68 euros per month), Haut-Rhin (196.38 euros) and Bas-Rhin (199.31 euros), where the cost of mutual insurance is the lowest.

How can we explain these increases in many departments? The 100% Health reform has a major impact on the trends observed over the last two years, details Samuel Bansard. Its objective was to provide access to care for all with 100% coverage for certain optical, dental and audiology care and equipment services. From this point of view, the objective is met but what a cost! The financing of this reform seems to have been poorly evaluated when it was implemented and has a direct impact on French contributions.

what can we expect for 2024? According to initial estimates, prices are expected to continue to increase by 9% to 11% in the coming months. Taking into account this context and the need to offer a rate adapted to the needs of their insurerssome players are also starting to exit non-responsible contracts, notes Meilleurtaux Assurances.
