these dried fruits are bad for blood sugar, avoid eating in the morning according to a nutritionist

Very rich in sugar and concentrated in calories, certain dried fruits are not recommended for those who monitor their blood sugar or who wish to lose weight. A nutritionist explains why.

Consumed in small quantities, dried fruits are foods that can be beneficial for the body. Rich in vegetable proteins, vitamin E, unsaturated fatty acids, selenium, potassium but also in antioxidants, they have a good fiber content and increase the feeling of fullness at meal times.

But as the nutritionist explains Raphaël Gruman on his TikTok account, dried fruits are sometimes “false friends” for those who want to lose weight. This is particularly the case for dried fruits. “Dried fruits are a lot more concentrated in sugar than classic fruits, and they sometimes contain added sugars” (often used by manufacturers to improve their conservation). In addition, this type of product is much more calorie dense. On average, a serving of dried fruit provides 250 calories, but this can quickly skyrocket for certain oilseeds such as pecans which contain 700 calories on average per 100 grams of product.

Which dried fruit to eat for breakfast and in what quantity?

The nutritionist recommends consuming fresh fruit for breakfast, rather than dried fruit. Indeed, fresh fruits are much richer in water and fiber and they provide a feeling of satiety much faster. “If we tend to limit ourselves to one or two fresh apricots, we can quickly eat around ten dried apricots”, explains Raphaël Gruman, which explodes the daily calorie quota.

As for dried fruits, it is recommended to consume a daily serving of 30 grams. It is therefore entirely possible to eat dried fruits for breakfast (in muesli, with natural yogurt or Skyr), particularly almonds which are very rich in vegetable proteins and vitamin E.
