If AI models accurately predict an individual’s date of death, why wouldn’t they be able to spot when someone is lying? For several days, the VerifEye application has been the subject of heated discussions on Reddit. Launched a year ago on iOS and Android, it promises to detect lies.
Accuracy of up to 80% according to the developer
Converus, which develops VerifEye, claims its app spots lies with up to 80% accuracy. While there is no clear indication that AI is used, some Reddit users reveal that a model detects eye behavior and involuntary movements to determine if the user is telling the truth. It is the front camera that is used by the app.
As explained BGR, lie detection using the eyes is nothing new and has been done since the 70s. But it is worth remembering that in the context of VerifEye, this is a recreational application. The user’s eye behavior must also be cross-referenced with other indicators, which the Converus app does not do.
It should also be noted that since 2012, many widespread elements on the analysis of eye behavior to spot lies have been refuted by a study.
