Tinder: Dating app is searched more often than last year

Despite Corona, the interest in dating has not disappeared. On the contrary: Dating apps were searched for more frequently in 2020 than in the previous year.

Love lust instead of corona frustration? At least in Germany it looks like it. According to an evaluation of Google search queries by the online visibility management platform SEMrush, Germans increasingly searched for dating apps from March to July 2020. Overall, the search query has increased by 62 percent compared to the previous year.

In particular, the search query for Tinder increased. In the dating app, the increase in monthly searches was 56 percent. In contrast, the Parship app (plus 13 percent) was searched for significantly less. Interest was even declining among the competition. So Lovoo achieved a minus of 4 percent and Lovescout24 a minus of 25 percent. In contrast, the apps Bumble and Lebensfreude achieved a particularly high increase in search queries, but at a lower level. In both applications, the number of search queries doubled compared to the previous year.

In a nationwide comparison, the search for dating apps most frequently was 66 percent in Schleswig-Holstein, followed by Brandenburg (plus 65 percent) and Baden-Württemberg (plus 63 percent).

Divorce lawyers increasingly wanted

But in addition to the longing for togetherness, the search for divorce lawyers also increased by a total of five percent in the period under study. When it came to divorce, for example, the keywords "divorce attorney" (plus 27 percent), "family law attorney" (plus 18 percent) and "divorce costs" (plus 12 percent) were increasingly searched online. At the same time, the search for topics related to weddings has fallen by 20 percent. This is put into perspective, however, in view of the fact that Corona prevented many weddings from taking place.

Thuringians are more likely to seek divorce

It gets slippery in Thuringia! Because it was there that nationwide searches for the dating app C-Date were the most frequent. This application specializes in non-binding sex contacts. Overall, the search query there rose by 69 percent, followed by Hamburg (plus 63 percent) and Berlin (plus 62 percent). At the same time, Thuringia leads the search for the search term "divorce" (plus 22 percent). Coincidence?

"The period of isolation made Germans more willing to meet people. Not least because many suddenly had more time. Some dating services benefited particularly from this, with the number of app downloads and users increasing," explains Evgeni Sereda, Senior Marketing Manager DACH at SEMrush, the increase.
