Top 2021 SVOD services in the United States

Based on a quarterly survey of 10,000 American households, this ranking makes it possible to measure the evolution of the uses of American platforms.

The study recalls that more than 80% of American households equipped with broadband internet have at least one OTT service and that the average churn rate for these services is 44%, mainly linked to the multitude of new services that encourage households to test them and then unsubscribe.

The 2021 ranking confirms the position of the two historical leaders: Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The third step of the podium escapes Hulu which sees itself overtaken by its cousin Disney +. In total, The Walt Disney Company places its services in 3rd, 4th and 6th position. HBO Max gains one place compared to 2020, as does Paramount + (ex CBS All Access) which passes Apple TV +. Finally, Discovery + is in 11th position.

American OTT services continue to develop rapidly: SVOD, AVOD but also vMVPD (Virtual Multichannel Video Programming Distributor) offers. ParksAssociates points out that 19% of American households said they subscribed to such a service, almost double the number of 2020. By 2024, 23 million should have subscribed to this type of service (Sling, DIRECTV NOW, YouTube Live, Hulu Live , fuboTV, Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV).
