Toyota: Provides Six Hydrogen Fuel Cell Modules for Rail

Toyota Motor Europe announces that it will supply six Fuel Cell Modules (PAC) to CNH2 (Centro National de Hidrogeno) the hydrogen research center, and to railway manufacturer CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles), both located in Spain.

Three of these modules have already been delivered to CNH2 and will be tested on a test bench before being sent to CAF. The three remaining modules will go directly to CAF in mid-February, where the six modules will be installed in the demonstration train.

With the delivery of the Toyota PAC modules, teams can now develop the hybrid power supply for the train’s dual-mode traction chain. This system combines the electricity coming from two sources: on the one hand, the catenary and on the other hand, the hybrid block PAC which functions in an independent way.

Once the integration is complete, the consortium will begin initial function tests and test drives with a view to homologation on Spanish and Portuguese tracks.
