Transfer attack for premier class
Union Berlin adorns itself with a Chelsea striker

Union Berlin is gearing up for the Champions League and is strengthening its attack. David Datro Fofana comes on loan from Chelsea. His young career had stuttered a bit at the London club, he only made three short appearances in the Premier League last season.

Union Berlin has made the loan deal with David Datro Fofana perfect. As the Bundesliga club announced, the 20-year-old Ivorian is coming to Berlin from Chelsea for a season. The transfer had already been indicated in the past few days. Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde FK in Norway earlier this year. The “Blues” had paid twelve million euros for the youngster’s services. In London, however, the young attacker and three-time international player from the Ivory Coast had not been able to earn a regular place. He only played three times in the Premier League, once in the FA Cup.

Nevertheless, Union builds on the skills of the striker. “David’s pace and his flexible attacking qualities are of great interest to us. We want another dangerous player who will give our attacking game additional impetus,” said Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert. At Molde, the striker had played his way into the international showcase with 24 goals and ten assists in 65 games.

In view of the Champions League qualification, Union wants to strengthen its squad across the board. Sven Michel (FC Augsburg) left the club in attack. It is also possible to say goodbye to top scorer Sheraldo Becker in the direction of the Premier League. Mikkel Kaufmann has already been signed by FC Copenhagen. In the closing stages of last season, Becker and Kevin Behrens were regarded as set in attack. At Jordan Siebatcheu, the Irons hope for a leap in performance in the second Union year.

Fofana wants to give his career in Berlin new impetus. “Union has developed extremely well in recent years and I’m very excited to be a part of it in the new season. The club have worked hard for me for a long time and I want to repay that with good performances,” he said quoted in a statement.
