(Boursier.com) — Turkish Airlines is about to sign a huge contract with Rolls Royce And Airbus for the domestic production of aircraft components. According to ‘Bloomberg’, which cites Turkish officials close to the matter, the agreement, which would be part of the mega-contract signed by the Turkish company with Airbus last year, could reach 20 billion dollars. A deal could be formalized at a ceremony in Istanbul later this month.

In mid-December, Turkey’s national carrier signed an order for the firm purchase of 230 Airbus aircraft with options for dozens more as it seeks to expand its Istanbul hub and better compete with regional rivals such as Emirates and Qatar Airways. As part of the order, Turkey pushed for local production of aircraft parts, the sources said. Turkish companies, including state-owned TUSAS Engine Industries and TEI, are likely to be part of the domestic manufacturing program, agency sources said.
