Twitter will have to pay a fine of 100,000 euros to the UFC-Que Choisir association.

In question, a long-standing dispute concerning certain conditions of use of the platform.

A fine for Twitter

This should not suit Elon Musk, already weakened by the meager financial results of Twitter Blue, but the social network Twitter has just been sentenced in France to pay 100,000 euros to the UFC-Que Choisir association.

For more than ten years, the association has pointed out certain conditions of use of the platform, and in particular a little more than 250 clauses deemed abusive, with regard to the collection of personal data from users. Some clauses also mentioned the fact that the photos published on the social network could be the subject of a ” commercial exploitation “… without the user’s consent.

The consumer code in the line of sight (for all platforms)

Five years ago, the Paris court ruled in favor of the association, then imposing on Twitter to pay a fine of 50,000 euros. The American giant had appealed, but the latter was recently dismissed by the courts, which, in passing, doubled the amount of the initial fine, increasing it from 50,000 to 100,000 euros.

Obviously, if this decision applies today to Twitter, it concerns all the other platforms, which must commit to respecting the consumer code in France. UFC-Que Choisir had notably criticized Twitter for using too vague, even imprecise, formulations in its T&Cs, likely to mislead users.

Remember that Twitter is also the target of many other complaints, in particular for various unpaid bills, not to mention the flight of many advertisers since Elon Musk took power, which constitutes a regret for Jack Dorsey, creator of the platform.
