U-turn – VW gives up the unfortunate touch fields on the steering wheel!

Not only VW has been using touch elements on multifunction steering wheels for some time, which are difficult to use. But that should be over now: Wolfsburg is reviving classic buttons and switches and switches!

I wouldn’t have thought that possible, although I’ve wished for it so often: “Please leave out these unfortunate touch things!” How often have I made myself unpopular with car manufacturers (and continue to do so) because I oppose bad operating concepts in modern approach cars and never tire of writing about them and reporting on them in videos or podcasts. After all, I see myself in the service of the readers and not the manufacturer. VW is not the only manufacturer who was apparently addicted to the touch craze. More and more buttons and switches are disappearing in modern cars, especially on the dashboard, where in some cases almost all functions can only be called up via the touchscreen. But touch fields have also found their way into many places on the multifunction steering wheels. The current Golf was the first VW with this steering wheel control unit. Mercedes is also a negative example. Greetings to Stuttgart: Maybe you dare to go back to the buttons of previous generations of cars that worked perfectly! I loved them!Okay, now VW is getting reasonable (more)! The change of heart was announced by none other than the new CEO of the core brand Thomas Schäfer (who also heads the volume brand group with VW, Seat and Skoda). On his LinkedIn profile he wrote: We are sharpening our portfolio and our design, and we are also making our vehicles easier to operate. For example, we are bringing back the buttons on the steering wheel. That’s what VW customers want I can wish for something, then that other manufacturers follow the example. I will celebrate every single one. Just like Thomas Schäfer.
