There are always apps in the Google Play Store that install malware in the background or read and forward personal data. Should you use the application “2FA Authenticator” installed on your cell phone, delete them immediately.
According to researchers from Pradeo, a digital security technology company, this is one such malware-infected app. The application disguises itself as an authentication app and requests critical permissions. Once these are granted, the app collects the application list and sends it to third parties.
Furthermore, the application disables the key lock, downloads other programs disguised as updates and performs activities even when the app is switched off. In addition, an overlay can be displayed over other programs.
According to the researchers, in a second phase of the attack, 2FA Authenticator installed the “Vultur” malware, which specializes in collecting and reading bank data.
The program has since been removed from the Play Store, but was previously downloaded by more than 10,000 people. If you are one of them, uninstall the app immediately and scan your cell phone for viruses.
