(Boursier.com) — Valneva SE, a vaccine company, today announced the appointment to its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of two world-renowned vaccine experts, Dr. Thomas Decker and Dr. Michael Pfleiderer.
Dr. Thomas Decker is Professor of Immunobiology in the Max Perutz Laboratory at the University of Vienna. His experience in immunobiology is the result of more than 30 years of research and teaching in Germany, Sweden, Austria and the United States, specializing in the molecular aspects of immunity against infection. During his career, Dr. Decker has also been a consultant for different pharmaceutical companies. Chairman of the Department of Microbiology and Genetics at the University of Vienna until 2009, he is the current President of the “European Macrophage and Dendritic Cell Society (EMDS)”. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the scientific journals Molecular and Cellular Biology and Journal of Biological Chemistry.
Dr. Michael Pfleiderer is an internationally recognized expert in regulatory affairs and vaccine development. He is a biologist by training and holds a doctorate in molecular virology. Among other things, Dr. Pfleiderer headed the human viral vaccines section of the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI), the German Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines. In this capacity, he was responsible for all matters relating to the licensing and regulation of vaccines, from batch control to their release to inspection matters. As a former member of a regulatory authority, Dr Pfleiderer has extensive regulatory experience, including the process of assessing the benefit-risk balance of a vaccine and regulatory, legal and administrative issues related to applications. of approval. Dr. Pfleiderer has contributed significantly to numerous European Medicines Agency and World Health Organization guidelines on scientific and regulatory issues related to vaccines.
