GASTRONOMY – As every year now, at the beginning of January, the ranking of the best chip shops in France is unveiled. This year, the winner is in Wambrechies (North).

Nine chip shops in Hauts-de-France are in the top 10 of the best establishments in France, according to the 2021 ranking established by the site Les-Friteries.com. Indeed, among the 1368 chip shops listed by the Les-Friteries.com website in 2021, “La frite à dorer”, located in Wambrechies (Nord), “La Friterie hersinoise” in Hersin-Coupigny (Pas-de-Calais) and “Chic frite” in Dunkirk (Nord) are located in the top 3. If the fries are so tasty at Wambrechies, it’s because they are prepared in this chip shop every morning with meticulous care. “The secret of a good fries is a good potato, preferably a Bintje, but above all, cooking in two stages. We precook the raw potato at 130 degrees and when ready to serve it, we grabs it 180 degrees to give it color and crispiness”, explains David Fontaine, the manager of the chip shop.
Every month, customers gobble up five to six tons of fries here. A success that owes nothing to chance: this is the third time that the chip shop has been promoted to champion of France. Inevitably, the manager savors. But there is no question of taking the big head, his victory is above all that of conviviality and his proximity to customers.
The classification is carried out through the popularity index of each chip shop. It takes into account the votes of Internet users, the opinions submitted by users and the seniority of the establishment on Les-Friteries.com.
