Bad news for all heavy metal fans: Despite loosening and falling incidence, the Wacken Open Air is also canceled this year.

After Rock im Park, Rock am Ring, Hurricane and Southside, the Wacken Open Air has now also been officially canceled for 2021. The organizers announced this on Tuesday. Accordingly, the 31st edition of the cult festival will be postponed to summer 2022 and will take place from August 4th to 6th. The Wacken founders had stuck to an implementation right up until the end – the disappointment is great.

“Our hearts are bleeding! All the visitors, musicians and the entire crew have put all their hopes in being able to celebrate together again in July this year in Wacken, but we have no other choice: we have to wait a little longer”, explains Thomas Jensen, boss and founder of the festival. Co-founder Holger Hübner adds: “Even if we could organize, many people would not be able to come due to the constant travel restrictions. We are an international festival, people from over 80 nations travel to Wacken.”

Ticket exchange and new event in autumn

Tickets can be exchanged for the following year from mid-June. Visitors then also have the option of requesting a payout. In addition, the organizers have announced the planning of a live music format for the coming autumn. The concept for this is still in work. “We are currently examining what is feasible and hope that the situation will continue to develop positively. If everything goes well, we will be able to hold a new event in Wacken in September 2021 to help restart live music,” said Jensen.
