Wall Street: Towards new records while waiting for the ISM

(CercleFinance.com) – The New York Stock Exchange seems set to open on new records Tuesday morning pending the publication of a closely followed indicator of the manufacturing sector.

Half an hour before the opening, the futures contracts on the main New York indices advance from 0.2% to 0.4%, announcing a start of the session in the green.

As Wall Street moves very close to its all-time highs, investors should study the ISM manufacturing index with interest, which will fall early in the session, with the idea of detecting the chances of a continuation of the recent rally at the end of the session. year.

Regional indices show that morale has so far remained high among American manufacturers, less exposed to rising gas prices than their European counterparts.

The ISM index has also spent most of 2021 above the 60 point threshold.

More generally, any data likely to provide indications on the health of the US economy, and therefore on the pace of monetary tightening envisaged by the Fed, will be closely scrutinized.

Among the most anticipated indicators for the coming week are the monthly employment figures in the United States, due on Friday.

Good numbers would undoubtedly strengthen the likelihood of further rate hikes from the central authority.

Still, the normalization of Fed policy does not seem to scare the market away, mainly due to its very gradual nature and the cautious communication put in place by the central bank.

The markets do not seem to be moved, either, by the recent rise in bond yields, which yesterday translated into sharp pressure on 10-year Treasuries, whose yield climbed 13 basis points to reach 1. , 64%.

Its rate is tightening a little more this morning, to nearly 1.68%, without causing a stir in the equity markets for the moment.
