War in Ukraine: the price of diesel exceeds that of gasoline in France

War between Ukraine and Russiacase

As a result of the Russian invasion and Western sanctions, the average fuel prices in France published on Monday by the Ministry of Ecological Transition are reaching new heights, especially for diesel.

It is a historic reversal. According to the weekly report this Monday from the French Ministry for the Ecological Transition, average prices exploded last week under the effect of the Russian invasion in Ukraine: + 7.2 cents on the liter of unleaded 95-E10 and +14 cents on the liter of diesel.

The latter costs an average of 1.8831 euros per liter and therefore now exceeds that of the SP 95-E10, at 1.8713 cents per liter on average in France, as shown in the graph updated this Monday noon on the ministry’s website. .

Earlier in the day, Michel-Edouard Leclerc warned: “The hardest part is yet to come”. On France info, the boss indicates that “the mythical bar of two euros [prix à la pompe] is in everyone’s mind. We get there in Paris and in many big cities.”

In the morning, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire assured on BFMTV that a “response” will be brought “to all French people most affected by the crisis”. The tenant of Bercy however warned that “It won’t be a ‘whatever the cost’ of pouring gasoline on a fire”.

Update : at 1:39 p.m., with the addition of the ministry’s graphic and statements by Bruno Le Maire and Michel-Edouard Leclerc.
