“We call for a republican start in the face of attacks against players in the hospital world”

VShe last few weeks, these last days, several actors of the hospital world – directors, doctors, caregivers, overseas or in metropolitan France – have been the target of attacks, degradations and attempted trespassing of home, death threats , intimidation maneuver in the form of insults or hate speech, very directly, on social networks and in the written press.

This situation is the result of an active minority. However, it is intolerable and worrying. It calls for the greatest vigilance in the face of possible actions. We affirm our full and entire solidarity with our colleagues and call for the broadest possible Republican outburst to put an end to these actions as quickly as possible.

In this pandemic, our only enemy is the virus. Our only goal, shared by all, is to save lives, prevent disease and suffering. The mobilization of hospitals, under the guidance of the general managers and their teams, the presidents of the establishment medical commission, the crisis medical directors, in close collaboration with the deans of health, and elected officials, presidents of the supervisory boards of hospitals, allows us to see a way out of this epidemic and hope to return to normal life.

Refusal of hatred

We act within a legal, ethical, professional and human framework. Since the start of this crisis, we have been working hard, or ignoring that of patients and their families. We aspire, like the rest of the population, to get out of this crisis and this succession of epidemic waves as quickly as possible, so that we can continue to devote ourselves to the care of all.

When hospital players are attacked for doing their job, it is everyone’s health that is targeted. We know that the vast majority of the population and hospital communities share the same values, the rejection of hatred, violence and intolerance, and are as shocked as we are by the unacceptable behavior of a few individuals.

We call on all elected officials and public officials to pose as protectors of the hospital, of all those who serve it and to contribute to the serene and respectful climate which must, in all circumstances, mark the places of care that hospitals are. We invite social network managers to prevent the dissemination of hateful, defamatory and violent speech. Finally, we have confidence in the public authorities and the justice system to take the measures provided for by law against those responsible for these attacks, and to protect the professionals who are the victims. Their complaints must be investigated with diligence, thus contributing to the respect of a republican framework which is today clearly under tension.
