Unable to produce enough smartphones
, Huawei is no more than a shadow of itself and is collapsing in China. vivo becomes the number 1 brand there, while Apple is experiencing a meteoric rise.

Huawei continues to tumble. Already very weakened internationally, the manufacturer has so far managed to achieve solid sales in China, its domestic market. It is not the case anymore.

vivo takes advantage of Huawei’s setbacks

After four consecutive years as number 1 in smartphone sales in China, Huawei’s results are collapsing and even come out of the Top 5 in 2021, according to a report by analyst firm IDC. The loss of Google services is not a handicap in China as it is in Europe or America, but the sanctions that hit Huawei and prevent it from getting enough chips have weighed down its year.

It is vivo which therefore takes first place, with 71 million units sold, up 23.3% compared to 2020. The brand also gains 3.8 points of market share, which is rises to 21.5%. Already well established in the entry-level segment, the manufacturer made progress in the middle and high end of the range last year.

OPPO takes second place, with 67.1 million smartphones sold and growth of 18.3%, for market share of 20.4%. Xiaomi completes the podium with 51.1 million mobiles sold, which gives it 15.5% market share. The manufacturer is showing a nice increase of 31% in 2021 compared to 2020.

Apple big winner in China in 2021

Apple is in very good shape in China and almost reaches the figures of Xiaomi (50.3 million iPhones sold, 15.3% market share) thanks to a growth of 39.5%. IDC explains that Apple is the main beneficiary of the fall of Huawei and that the American group has suffered less from shortages and supply problems than the others.

Finally, Honor enters the Top 5 thanks to its separation from Huawei, which authorizes it to work again with chip suppliers. Its 38.6 million sales give it 11.6% market share.

A total of 329.3 million smartphones were sold in China in 2021, up 1.1% from last year.
