Find out by chance the couple of Monica and Chandler was created in “Friends”, because yes, they should not have existed!
Did you know that the Friends couple Chandler-Monica (Matthew Perry-Courtney Cox) was born completely by chance and thanks to the public? It was the co-creator of the series Martha Kauffman who revealed this information about the Geller-Bing couple in the show Friends: The Reunion:
Matthew Perry: his last joke in Friends is particularly moving
One of the times we listened most closely to people’s reactions was when, during filming in London, Monica and Chandler ended up in bed together.
During this scene, present in episode 24 of season 4, Chandler and Monica are in London and sleep together for the first time, narrowly escaping being caught in the act by Ross, Monica’s brother. And during their bed scene, the audience watching the filming went crazy, as series co-creator David Crane remembers:

“We were completely stunned. It was crazy. So we let it happen. (…) I think that’s when we started to rethink the Monica-Chandler relationship, because originally, we were planning for there to be a little adventure in London , but let it be short-lived and then we’ll have fun for a while with the theme of ‘Oh my God, what have we done?’”
Here is the famous “London sequence”:
“Given the way the public reacted”explains Kauffman, “we understood that it went beyond that and that we had to take it into consideration. It was the end of the season, so we were going to have time to think and come up with ideas, but it was a an event so important that we knew full well that it had to be explored as deeply as possible.”

The team will then have fun keeping the relationship a secret, giving rise to sequences of misunderstandings perfect for a sitcom. Obviously, as fans already know, Monica and Chandler will be discovered by their friends (S05E14) then get married (S07E24) and adopt twins (S10E18)!

This whole story, the fans therefore owe it to the good reactions of the audience of the sitcom, because at the time, the comedy series of the American channels were filmed in front of an audience, whose reactions were recorded to become the famous “recorded laughter” which have now completely disappeared from the landscape (and that’s why)!
Very recently, Matthew Perry was the first of the Friends to leave us, on October 28. He was 54 years old. His friends who are actors in the series currently say they are “devastated” and will soon speak to pay tribute to their comrade.
