The English record champions Manchester United celebrate an important success against Tottenham Hotspur thanks to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the duel for a place in the Champions League. The five-time world footballer is the outstanding man as a three-time goal scorer.
Thanks to an outstanding performance by the recently heavily criticized superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Ralf Rangnick celebrated an important home win in the English Premier League with Manchester United. In the 3-2 (2-1) win against Tottenham Hotspur, the Portuguese scored three times. It was the 49th hat-trick in the 37-year-old’s club career. With 807 goals, Ronaldo now also holds the FIFA record for most goals in football history. He replaces the Czechoslovakian Josef Bican (805).
The striker put the Red Devils ahead after 12 minutes at Old Trafford. After Harry Kane equalized for Spurs (35th minute / penalty), Ronaldo scored to give United the lead again. Ex-Dortmunder Jadon Sancho prepared the goal in an exemplary manner.
And after an own goal by Harry Maguire (72nd), it was Ronaldo again who scored the win (81st) before being substituted to loud applause. The success improved Manchester with 50 points to fourth place in the table. However, the Rangnick team has played 29 games, the direct competitor and fifth-placed Arsenal, who has 48 points, has only played 25 games.
Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool remain within striking distance in the title race. The “Reds” won 2-0 (1-0) at Brighton & Hove Albion and, as second in the table, are still only three points behind leaders and champions Manchester City. It was Liverpool’s eighth league win in a row. Luis Diaz (19th) provided the lead after strong preliminary work by former Schalke player Joel Matip, star attacker Mohamed Salah (61st) increased with a hand penalty.
