The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are not the only new features on the program of the Made by Google conference organized by the Mountain View giant. Its Wear OS operating system, in version 3.5, officiates within the first connected watch stamped Pixel, and logically called Pixel Watch.
The watch was partially unveiled at the last Google I / O in May, but the majority of its technical characteristics remained in the shadows. We now know that its case measures 41 mm in diameter and houses an Amoled screen displaying 320 dpi, with an Always-On function. Under this panel sits the Exynos 9110 chip, not quite recent since it dates from the end of 2018 (and seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3!), accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. We note the presence of a 294 mAh battery, which Google ensures that it allows to consider up to 24 hours of autonomy. It is therefore to be hoped that the low-power Cortex M33 coprocessor that accompanies the Exynos 9110 allows substantial energy savings. These elements result in a thickness reaching 12.3 mm.
A Google x Fitbit watch
The Pixel Watch is intended to be geared towards everyday use and as such embeds the usual Google applications. It is also possible to customize the watch faces using photos from the service ad hoc of Mountain View. But, in addition to its utilitarian functions, the watch turns to health and sport. There is therefore a heart rate monitor, an ECG sensor, a function for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood (SpO2) and a GPS. Everything, says Google, relies on Fitbit’s expertise in data processing. The daily fitness score, determining the form of the user and his ability to carry out physical exercise, is thus part of the game, as are the minutes in the active zone or the analysis of sleep, all of this coming under Fitbit. Six months of subscription to Fitbit Premium are also provided with the Watch.
Google announces the launch of its Pixel Watch from October 13, and this in two versions: the first in wifi, billed at 379 €, and the second in 4G, at a price of 429 €. Note that the watch is compatible with Android smartphones from version 8, excluding Android Go, and that a fall detection function will be deployed on devices by the end of the year.
