Wizards of the Coast (Dungeons & Dragons) cancels 5 games in development


The year is not starting off strong for everyone, especially on the home side. Hasbro and of Wizards of the Coast. The company may excel in the world of toys and board or card games, but it does not really manage to establish itself in the video game industry, as evidenced by the recent Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance which did not work at all with the general public. This failure is undoubtedly part of the reasons for which the company announces today to reduce its ambitions on the side of the video game.

Critical failure for five projects

Bloomberg reveals that no less than five game projects in development have just been canceled within Wizards of the Coast, with a little less than fifteen people from the company who will be made redundant following this decision. The latter also affects partner studios such as Hidden Path Entertainment Where Otherside Entertainment who were working on games in conjunction with Wizards of the Coast.

It is a restructuring that is the cause of these changes of plans, with Wizards of the Coast still wanting to invest in gaming, but focusing on very specific games, associated with licenses that work:

We’ve made some changes to our long-term catalog to focus on games that are strategically aligned with the development of our existing brands, and those that show promise in expanding our audience. »

Sad news for those affected by this change in strategy. It is not known whether the game project Dungeons & Dragons developed by Invoke Studios on the Unreal Engine 5 is part of the sacrificed or not.
