World Economic Forum Davos – Because of Omikron: WEF to take place in early summer instead of January – News

  • The World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, planned from January 17 to 21, 2022, has been postponed.
  • The reason is “the continuing uncertainty regarding the Omikron outbreak”.
  • The meeting is now scheduled to take place in early summer 2022.

The organizers report in a Press release and on Twitter. Instead of the meeting, participants would attend a series of State of the World sessions that would bring together world leaders online.

Despite the meeting’s strict health protocols, the portability of Omikron and its impact on travel and mobility would have required a postponement, officials said. The health and safety of everyone involved in physical meetings has always been the priority of the forum.

“The postponement of the annual conference will not prevent progress through the continuous digital gathering of executives from business, government and civil society,” Klaus Schwab, founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, is quoted in the press release. “Public-private collaboration has evolved during the pandemic and will continue to do so. We look forward to bringing world leaders together in person soon. “
