Xbox Series X or PS5? I’ve found a clear winner

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are in fairly even competition. While both consoles offer strong gaming features, I’ve clearly found a favorite based on my gaming history.

A comment by Gregor Elsholz

For about a year now, I’ve been able to watch one of the most entertaining rivalries in human history up close and personal in HDR and 4K in my living room. The PS5 and Xbox Series X jostle next to my TV like two plastic-become supremacy claims for my time and attention, which of course I can only give to one of them at a time due to natural limitations (only two eyes & two hands).

Like all worthwhile drama of its kind, the competitive battle has had its fair share of twists and turns. Hopes were both disappointed and exceeded – but when I look at the season so far, the winner of the duel is much clearer than I previously expected.

Xbox Series X vs PS5: Who is ahead?

My Xbox Series X has accumulated more game time than the PS5 by a clear margin. In fact, I use the Xbox for almost all games, that have appeared on both platforms plus I’ve also put in a few obligatory minutes playing Forza Horizon 5 and other games only available through Xbox backwards compatibility.

the On the other hand, I only use the PS5 for the exclusive Sony gamesthat I’m interested in and can’t play anywhere else – which for me since release has been limited to Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Deathloop, and Horizon Forbidden West, with a quick trip to Astro’s Playroom.

In these 7 aspects, Xbox leads the race with PlayStation:

Microsoft gets the little things right

The differences between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are mostly only minor details. Both are extremely powerful devices that a whole lot to offer under the hood to have. Anyone who only owns one of the two consoles can undoubtedly be happy with it. In a direct comparison, however, it pays off that Microsoft simply does a lot of these little things better than Sony.

These include the main menu with the customizable background and easier-to-navigate tile look, as well as the largely worry-free Smart Delivery system and the Dolby Vision option. So, along with some pretty interesting day-one releases in Game Pass, the Xbox Series X has quietly become my go-to console, while the PS5 is only turned on for certain games.

PlayStation 5: The range of games has not been convincing so far

The PS5 is by no means a second-rate console, but the spark just hasn’t really jumped over with me yet. Because the console is currently lagging behind the Xbox in the mentioned matters, the games are all the more important – and that PS5 exclusive offer has been too thin for me so far, especially since neither the Demon’s Souls remake nor Returnal met my taste. The PS Plus Collection couldn’t bind me to the PS5 either, because I’ve already played the games available there on the PS4.

With God of War: Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and PSVR2 Of course, I have already planned a few hours together with my PS5 in the future. Until then, however, Sony’s console still has to come to terms with its unfamiliar role as a new challenger.
