The Japanese manufacturer Yamaha is continuing its merry way in the electric scooter market. A path that does not necessarily lead to our regions, and which is sometimes limited to the Asian market: evidenced by the release of the Yamaha EC-05 or the e-Vino. Although we hope to see the E02 and E01 land in Europe in 2022.

The Japanese company will strengthen its catalog during the vintage with a new model by the name of Yamaha EMF. This scooter has the particularity of relying on the interchangeable battery system of Gogoro, the undisputed leader in this market, both in its native country in Taiwan and in the world.

Taiwan, the country of interchangeable batteries

Working alongside Gogoro is a smart strategy, a bet on the long term and a guarantee in terms of infrastructure. To give you an idea, the number of GoStations — where you swap your battery for a new one in seconds when yours runs out — in Taiwan will soon overtake the number of gas stations.

This observation is already valid in Taipei, specifies Electrek. In France, Zeway is trying to become the European Gogoro by using the same formula from the Asian giant, although the population has not yet really adopted this interchangeable battery system. In Taiwan, it is quite the opposite.

You will understand why the Yamaha EMF will initially be limited to the Taiwanese market, which ticks all the boxes (demand, stations) to guarantee a minimum of success. This electric scooter has not yet been revealed in its entirety, despite some characteristics communicated by the brand.

Swift

For example, it will be necessary to rely on a 7.6 kW motor, hydraulic disc brakes and a CBS (Combined Brake System) system which activates the front and rear brakes simultaneously when pressing one of the levers. The 0 to 50 km / h is shot in 3.5 seconds: enough to ensure good acceleration in town.

At the legs, the Yamaha EMF has a cup holder and space to store small items. And that’s all there is to get your teeth into in terms of technical specifications. Waiting to know more about it.
