Yamaha launches two electric scooters into production

If, in the automotive market, the electric continues to grow with a share of around 10%, in the world of two-wheelers, the figures are much more anecdotal. Electricity therefore represents only 1.3% of registrations. However, the scooter segment, which lends itself better to electric motorization than the traditional motorcycle for architectural reasons, is growing by 49.7%, reaching 59,776 units in 2021.

On the strength of this observation, Yamaha, which continues to develop the thermal engine and the thermal hydrogen engine in parallel, has decided to launch into production the electric scooters resulting from the E01 and E02 concepts presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2019. Marketing is expected. for the Asian and European markets during 2022.

If we have very few technical details for the moment, these two-wheelers will be intended for the 50 and 125 cm market.3. The Yamaha E02 will probably be equipped with a power not exceeding 5.3 hp for a speed restricted to 45 km / h. The battery should be removable and provide a range of around fifty kilometers. For its part, the Yamaha E01 would deliver a maximum power of 15 hp, or 11 kW, but the torque available from the smallest rotation of the handle should offer some versatility to this scooter which takes the lines of the NMax. Let’s just hope that the Japanese manufacturer will not take the same path as the Piaggio 1, disappointing in terms of versatility.
