The rescue workers moved to the capital Canberra on Friday because of an alleged gas leak in a shopping area. According to their own statements, the fire brigade searched in vain for the leak for an hour until a tenant from an apartment above the shops pointed out the possible cause – the exotic durian fruit, also known as stinky fruit.
The durian is very popular with gourmets
Durian is extremely popular with Southeast Asian gourmets because of its creamy pulp and bittersweet taste. Their opponents, on the other hand, compare their penetrating smell to rotting garbage – or in this case to escaping gas. In many hotels and public transport, the consumption of durian is prohibited because of the unpleasant smell.
