Even before the nationwide start, children from the age of five will be vaccinated against the corona virus in Vienna. An RTL team discussed with Mayor Michael Ludwig on site why this happens before an official vaccination recommendation.

There is still no official recommendation in Europe to vaccinate children under the age of 12 – but in Vienna this is already being done as part of a pilot project. From now on, up to 200 children a day can be protected against the coronavirus with the Biontech vaccine – of course after extensive advice from the local doctors, who adjust the vaccination dose individually according to the size and weight of the children.

The project is also a response to the current explosion in the number of infections in Austria. In Germany, where the numbers also show a fatal trend, such a vaccination is not yet possible. After all, in the age group 12 and over, almost 44 percent of children in Germany are vaccinated – and the trend is rising. In the video you can see how Vienna’s Lord Mayor Michael Ludwig justifies the start of the pilot campaign.
