Covid-19: the government hopes for the adoption of the vaccine pass “before the end of January”, announces Gabriel Attal

The government does not want to hang around. After announcing the upcoming implementation of a vaccination pass that will replace the health pass, the executive now hopes to obtain parliamentary approval as soon as possible. The goal is for the bill to be “definitively adopted and promulgated before the end of January so that it can enter into force immediately”, said this Sunday, December 19 Gabriel Attal, on the set of LCI.

Ministers hope to put pressure on the unvaccinated in a “race against time” facing the fifth wave of Covid-19 and the arrival of the Omicron variant in France. And it already seems to be paying off. “This week-end”, either from this announcement, “we have seen an increase in appointments made for a first injection”, welcomed the government spokesperson, citing the figure of 16,000 primary vaccination appointments made on Saturday.

There remain around 5 million eligible French people who have not received any injection, he added. “It is them that we must go and convince once again, by taking measures, as we do with the vaccination pass, but also by using pedagogy”, he hammers.

The exact scope of the vaccination pass will be discussed in Parliament. Previously, the Minister of Labor, Elisabeth Borne, will receive the social partners on Monday. “The representatives of employers and employees, and unions, will be able to report their proposals, their doubts, their criticisms to the government since tomorrow there will be consultations” with Ms. Borne, underlined Gabriel Attal. Then, Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, will receive the parliamentary groups.

The text must then arrive before the deputies on January 5 and already promises new heated debates with the oppositions, part of which is against the past. “If we had to go in this direction” an extension to new places, parliamentarians “will define the perimeter: who it concerns, who would control”, said the representative of the executive. “For the moment, the working basis is really the perimeter that we know for the sanitary pass, that is to say restaurants, bars, places of culture, trade fairs, fairs and large gatherings “, he concluded, excluding for the moment the “daily transport and shopping centers”.

According to figures from Public Health France on Sunday, 52.5 million people have received at least one injection of the vaccine against Covid-19, or nearly 78% of the total population, and 51.4 million now have a complete vaccination schedule . However, while contaminations exceed 50,000 per day over a week, the number of patients in intensive care has started to rise again, approaching 3,000.
