The queues in front of the test centers do not stop. Even if unvaccinated people have had to pay for the corona tests themselves since last week, the tests are in demand. The hopes of the authorities that unvaccinated people would opt for a vaccination because of the obligation to pay does not seem to be fulfilled.
At least so far. Again “Tages-Anzeiger” shows, the number of first vaccinations has even decreased since the introduction of mandatory testing. While around 46,000 people were vaccinated for the first time from October 11 to 17, the previous week had increased by 6,000.
Certificate requirement with no desired effect
The introduction of the certificate requirement in restaurants or fitness centers in mid-September had only led to a short-term increase in the number of first vaccinations. Then the vaccination rate flattened out again.
The authorities are now particularly hoping for the national vaccination week, which will take place in the cantons in mid-November, and for the additional vaccination advisors. You should convince undecided people to get a vaccination.
The booster will be there soon
While some have not yet been vaccinated, others are already hoping for the third dose. Vaccination boss Christoph Berger is convinced that the so-called booster vaccination will be approved this year. But only for the elderly. The normal population doesn’t need a booster this year, says Berger. “We have no evidence that the protection of the mRNA vaccination is waning.”
When exactly the booster will be approved for older people in Switzerland is still open.
