A kit of watercooling intended for experienced users who are not afraid of using liquid metal to ensure conductivity.
If the name EK doesn’t mean anything to you, know that it is quite simply one of the most reputable brands when it comes to cooling our processors with some of the most effective watercooling kits.
The Slovenian brand, however, does not target the general public with products that are often expensive for so-called niche segments. Thus, it is the first to provide a kit for enthusiasts of “ delid “.
In direct contact with the CPU core
The English term “ delid » refers to the technique which aims to remove the capsule found on the surface of all modern processors, whether designed by AMD or Intel.
What we call the IHS (integrated heat spreader or integrated heat sink) is a metal capsule that manufacturers stick to the core of their processor. The objective is twofold and aims firstly to protect this extremely fragile part of the processor which, in the past, has been the cause of numerous deteriorations.
The other objective of the IHS is to provide a greater surface area for heat diffusion to this same core. In fact, it must – this is for theory – allow more effective cooling of the chip as a whole.
As we said, the more efficient cooling offered by the IHS is theory and, in practice, more and more enthusiasts are removing this IHS to benefit from better dissipation, it is the “ delid » or uncapping.

EK intends to address these enthusiasts by offering them a watercooling kit directly designed for these uncapped processors. The withdrawal of IHS poses challenges for commercialized cooling systems.
The EK company therefore imagined the Nucleus AIO CR360 Direct Die with a name that leaves little room for doubt: “ direct die » for direct contact with the processor core. Intended only for LGA 1700 CPUs, this kit therefore requires the IHS to be removed. For the rest, it’s a fairly classic kit.
It is made up of a water block that is placed at the processor level and a 360 millimeter radiator to which three 120 mm fans are attached. It should be noted that for good measure, EK does not deliver thermal paste, but a tube of liquid metal Conductonaut from Thermal Grizzly.
At a few euros above the 200 euro threshold, the Nucleus AIO CR360 Direct Die is ultimately no more expensive than many high-end models. It should ship from mid-March, but orders are already possible and the dedicated EK page details the product in detail.
