It almost feels like something is missing. Four years of noise in US politics was followed by silence. But the calm will not last long after the departure of the elected US President Donald Trump (74). Trump has announced the return to the spotlight.
Trump confirmed to the US news network “One America News” on Thursday that he intends to hold campaign-style rallies in four contested states in the coming weeks. This is again causing speculation that Trump will run for the White House again in 2024.
Trump says he is “beyond serious considerations” to run in 2024, but without already confirming a candidacy. He will make his first appearance “relatively soon in Florida”. This is followed by Ohio, Georgia, and North Carolina. Corresponding plans “will be announced very soon in the next week or two”.
Trump has not yet given any indication of the topics on which he wants to speak at the events. Experience has shown that there will be long monologues that do not leave the Democrats and the state of America unmistakable, while he may remind you that his defeat was the result of electoral fraud.
“Will make a decision in due course”
As the “New York Post” want to have learned from Trump’s environment, the first two rallies will take place in June and another on July 4th, the national holiday of the United States.
Trump has not appeared in front of the masses since his last public speech as still president on January 6, which was followed by the mutiny in the US Capitol. Since then he has given interviews to conservative media. In March, he made his only public address as the president who was voted out of office. He flirted with a 2024 candidacy.
When asked whether he would challenge US President Joe Biden (78) as a Republican candidate in November 2024, Trump now replies: “I will make a decision in due course and I will let you know.”
His decision will probably also depend on whether he can still mobilize the masses with his announced summer rallies – or whether America has said goodbye to the Trump era. (kes)
