Ezviz C3X or C3W Color Night Vision surveillance cameras: which one to choose?

While the C3X is one of Ezviz’s most advanced outdoor surveillance cameras, the C3W Color Night Vision, with close features and a lower price, may be an equally enticing option.

Ezviz’s C3X and C3W Color Night Vision cameras are similar in many ways. Both are waterproof and designed for outdoor use, and their 2 megapixel sensor allows them to shoot up to 1080p HD. Unlike the B-series models, like the BC1C, they are both battery operated. However, the C3X can count on a slightly more advanced artificial intelligence than the C3W, since it not only allows it to recognize people and vehicles, but also to capture color images at night without the aid of spotlights thanks to to a second objective.

We have also devoted an article to this feature, which is more impressive than really useful since, by Ezviz’s own admission, infrared vision offers a better level of detail in complete darkness, and it is not not uncommon to end up with black and white images: the C3X can change settings on its own if it deems it necessary.

Relying on spotlights, the C3W’s color night vision ultimately seems more reliable, and the latter can further claim to have captured our test scene with more detail than the C3X. And even if the C3X does a little better during our identification test, the C3W, by allowing us to recognize a face up to 4 meters away, certainly has nothing to be ashamed of.

In terms of detection, both models managed to spot activity at nearly 8 meters. If the detection of vehicles can be more interesting on the C3X, the detection of people, more useful, is present on the C3W. Most other configuration options are identical on both models, since they work with the same application.

The C3X and C3W both offer the choice of storing recordings on a memory card or in the cloud (from €4.99/month), and allow you to choose between a wifi or Ethernet connection for access to Internet. Both models offer very satisfactory audio performance despite somewhat weak sirens to deter intruders. It may also be interesting to note that the projectors used for the color night vision of the C3W can be added to the siren for deterrence purposes.

A quality/price ratio to the advantage of the C3W

Currently available for less than €100, the Ezviz C3W Color Night Vision is an excellent outdoor surveillance camera that has nothing to envy the C3X, except for its vehicle detection. The color night vision, although less sophisticated, seems more reliable on the C3W and we find there performances similar to that of the C3X, generally sold 30 to 20 € more expensive… except promotion of course . However, the C3X sometimes goes below the 100 € mark: it can then be more interesting.
