PARIS (Reuters) – Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire on Tuesday said he was maintaining his forecast of 4% growth in France’s gross domestic product (GDP) for 2022, despite the foreseeable economic difficulties in January due to the outbreak linked to the Omicron variant.
He also said on RTL that 2021 growth would be “significantly” higher than the government forecast, which has so far stood at 6.25%.
“It will be significantly more,” he said, specifying that the additional tax revenues linked to this growth surplus would be devoted to deleveraging and reducing the deficit, “which will also allow us in 2021 (.. .) to have a deficit significantly below 8% of GDP “, while the government expected the public deficit to reach 8.2% of GDP this year.
