The bra could well gradually lose popularity in France, especially among the youngest, according to a new survey.

Leading the Europeans. Wearing a bra may well lose ground. A new survey, carried out by Ifop for XloveCam with a sample of 5,039 people representative of the adult population of Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, was interested in the hygiene of Europeans and their habits in underwear material.

In terms of wearing a bra, it would seem that French women stand out by their refusal to wear one. If European women are on average 4% to never, or almost never, wear a bra, in France, the proportion rises to six out of a hundred women. And, unlike their European neighbours, the youngest French women, aged 18 to 24, are still more likely to practice no bra (13%), while among German women, only one in a hundred young women do not wear one, compared to 5% for the rest of the country’s female population.

Containment, a big turning point for the “no bra”

According to the survey, this practice of no bra would have evolved a lot these last years. In question in particular: confinement. Indeed, the study looked at the evolution of the wearing of a bra before, during and after the confinement ordered due to the health situation. According to surveys carried out by Ifop in 2020, 20% of young French women did not wear no bra during confinement, against only 4% before. And it seems that the practice has attracted more than one since two years later, 13 French women aged 18 to 24 out of 100 are followers of the no bra. As for those who wear them, again, French women are in the lead in terms of changing them daily.
