Gladiator 2: six injured on the set of the sequel after an accident


A stunt accident on set of the ‘Gladiator’ sequel injured six members of the film crew, Paramount confirmed on Friday.

As Variety reports, several people were injured on June 7 during the filming of Gladiator 2, which is currently taking place in Morocco.

While filming a planned stunt sequence on set for the Gladiator sequel, an accident occurred in which several crew members suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” a spokesperson for Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, said in a statement. “The security and full medical services teams on site were able to act quickly so that those affected received the necessary care immediately. They are all in stable condition and continue to receive treatment.

In total, six people had to be taken care of, four are still in hospital. All affected members were treated for burns, according to a person familiar with the production. Two other people were treated locally and then sent home. The accident happened towards the end of the filming day and no cast members were injured.

The Paramount spokesperson added: “The well-being of cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us, and we have implemented strict health and safety procedures on all of our productions. We will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary precautions as production resumes.

The sequel to the 2000 epic stars Oscar nominee Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen. Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, also returns behind the camera, David Scarpa signing the screenplay.

Gladiator was one of the highest-grossing films the year it debuted, winning the Oscar for Best Picture, as well as Best Actor for Russell Crowe. The sequel is set to hit theaters in November 2024.
