iPhone 14 Pro: a leak confirms the possible elongated bubble on the front to replace the notch

Will the notch go away from iPhone 14s? It is the nagging rumor of the moment and it tends to be supported by many sources. The latest insists on the switch to facial recognition hidden under the screen and a camera reduced to a pill-shaped bubble. And a visual is even on the Internet.

Farewell to the notch soon?

Will shrink, not shrink? This is one of the great existential questions around the future iPhone 14 from Apple. The notch has been debated since its introduction on the iPhone X and it has never stopped since, although many praise the effectiveness of the facial recognition system designed by the brand and hidden within it.

The years go by and each new version is announced as the last with Face ID before its disappearance. And yet technology is resisting and Apple is extending its existence regardless of criticism. Only the architecture of the notch has already been redesigned on the iPhone 13 to be slightly narrower, but a bit thicker. The year 2022 could mark the great upheaval (or almost) long awaited by some.

A bubble to get the pill out of the notch

According to a leaker Apple specialist which is starting to make a name for itself in the industry, the future iPhone 14 Pro would completely redesign the notch on the front to replace it with an elongated bubble, pill-style, and position Face ID under the screen. The technology as a whole would remain the same as on the iPhone 13.

I am able to corroborate information regarding a hole punch camera for the pro models of the iPhone 14. Face ID hardware will be placed under the display. As a reassurance to any concerns, the functionality of these sensors have not been negatively affected by this change.

Pill shaped is what I am hearing.

On his Twitter account @DylanDKT, it thus confirms a punch in the screen of the Pro models and the Face ID technology hidden under the screen, as the rumor whisper, but also the screen expert Ross Young. This would in no way interfere with the operation of the current TrueDepth camera.

However, this is not the first time that the pill format has been mentioned. As of October, a rendering of Ben Geskin on Twitter already showed this possibility on the next iPhone. An oval punch that he had already thought he saw … in 2018.

On Sunday, a photo of a possible bubble for the camera and Face ID in another punch below the screen resurfaced. From September, another leaker named @ShrimpApplePro on Twitter had published this image, already evoking a double punch.

iPhone 2022 will likely to have this design. Camera on the right. FaceID system on the left. This one is view from behind. LTPO
Two type they are testing: 6.1 ”and a 6.7”

Apple faithful to its TrueDepth camera

Apple has always maintained that the format including infrared sensors, ambient light, proximity or even the camera and the point projection system needed to be contained in the same notch. By redesigning the positioning of all these elements, as was the case between the iPhone 12 and 13 (the speaker in particular was raised to tighten everything up), the Californian brand might have found a way to visually feign.

And this, by allowing only the parts which need to remain on the surface of the slab to show through in the bubble-shaped cutout, while the elements which will not suffer from a lit slab to be effective will be in a certain way “masked”. “. But the whole would keep the same structure as at present.

However, that would only affect the two higher-end iPhone 14s. The “simple” models would undoubtedly keep the notch.

Yet Jon Prosser, another leaker of his condition, recently backtracked on the abandonment of the notch, after having loudly proclaimed that his sources indicated to him his disappearance and his replacement by a punch in the screen. Not far away ! This could be a double punch, as already seen on some Samsung Galaxy smartphones in particular. In addition, we know that LG has agreed to provide Apple with OLED panels with hole technology at the top of the screen, thus corroborating information unveiled by Ming-Chi Kuo, the famous analyst, a few months ago, but also those of Bloomberg.

The iPhone 14 Pro scheduled for 2022 could integrate a 48 megapixel sensor. A fourfold increase in comparison to the iPhone 13 Pro and a change of strategy for Apple if this were to happen …
