Is there a risk of a beer shortage when bars reopen, as in the United Kingdom?

On May 19, 2021, the terraces of bars and restaurants open again in France. Should we fear, like the British, a shortage of beer?

The reopening of the bars is coming soon. We have the terraces in the sun, or not depending on where you live (but we will not give a name). This surge of freedom, the British tasted it from April 12, 2021, after four months of strict confinement. Scenes of jubilation in the streets: our neighbors have returned to their beloved pubs. But horror, rather quickly, the establishments came close to the shortage of beer. Indeed, the breweries had underestimated the demand for foam, this being 12% higher than over the same period in 2019 (while the pubs are only partially open). Brewers have therefore worked hard to catch up with production and bring it up to demand, in order to avoid low tide.

Fortunately, in this regard, the French are anticipating. “As soon as the government announced it, our brewers began to make beer on tap, to be able to serve pressure. Producing beer takes at least three weeks, it’s tense, we are playing against the clock, but in at that moment everyone is in the hold, producing. We’ll be ready in time! “, assure Neon Maxime Costilhes, general delegate of Brasseurs de France, a union which represents 98% of French brewers

The production of bottled beer never stopped. The brewers are therefore waiting for you to honor their products on the terrace. These reopen on May 19 at 50% of their capacity, with tables of up to six people. For a complete reopening of the terraces, it will be necessary to wait until June 9, date of reopening of the half-gauge dining rooms. See you on June 30, 2021 for the complete reopening, but always in compliance with health instructions.
