When we have a craving, we often tend to reach for very sugary foods. Dr Jimmy Mohamed explains how to limit these cravings to lose weight more easily.

When we follow a dietary rebalancing and the body is in a caloric deficit, it often happens that we feel cravings and have sugar cravings. This can also happen after a meal that is a little too rich, which causes a sudden drop in blood sugar. While these sugar cravings are completely normal and should not be systematically repressed, there are some tips to limit them.

In his book Zero constraints to stay young (Editions Flammarion), Dr Jimmy Mohamed develops a whole series of tips to improve your daily diet. The doctor, a fervent supporter of a raw and unprocessed diet, explains how to limit these sugar cravings when you have a craving.

Cravings for sugar: learning to anticipate cravings

To avoid compulsive “cravings”, often consisting of very fatty and very sugary foods, the doctor advises “anticipate cravings by consuming, for example, squares of chocolate accompanied by herbal tea”. This small snack, taken between breakfast and lunch, or between lunch and dinner, is ideal for avoiding sugar cravings between meals.

Other possible options for gourmet snacks, low impact on blood sugar : a handful of oilseeds, a Skyr yogurt or a Petit-Suisse, or why not a salty snack consisting of hummus with raw vegetables.

Another tip is to take one or two chrome bulbs two hours before the craving, chromium being a regulator of sugar levels” explains Dr. Jimmy Mohamed. Indeed, chromium improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetics and reduces the level of carbohydrates in the blood. Thus, it regulates the appetite and prevents sugar cravings.
