The series "Bridgerton" is currently thrilling Netflix users worldwide. The success is due, among others, to US author Julia Quinn.

"Bridgerton" has been available on Netflix since Christmas 2020. The series about London's high society around 1813 has already attracted a large fan base. The format created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes (50) scores with splendid costumes and its romantic and at the same time scandalous plot paired with astute dialogues. The author Julia Quinn (51), on whose novel series the series is based, is primarily responsible for this.

"Bridgerton" on Netflix – What is it about?

Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the influential Bridgerton family, makes her debut in the hotly contested marriage market in Regency-era London. When the search for a suitable husband does not really work out, Daphne wants to attract the interest of men and makes a pact with the rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), who wants to end the rumors about his relationship status : You pose as a couple.

But the relationship to appearance soon turns into a real romance. Their confusion of love and also the other relationships, scandals or misconduct of high society are scrutinized by one person: Lady Whistledown (voice of Julie Andrews), who spreads the city's gossip stories with her scandalous society journal.

Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn

Author Julie Pottinger, who writes under the pen name Julia Quinn, brought the Bridgerton family to life in 2000. The American grew up in New England and devoured romance novels as a teenager. During her studies at Hardvard, she began to write love stories herself, which are set in Great Britain during the Regency period (around 1811-1820). Her first work "Splendid" was published in 1995. Quinn, who is often referred to as the contemporary Jane Austen (1775-1817, "Sense and Sensuality"), later dropped out of medical school at Yale University in order to devote herself to her writing career.

Quinn is very proud of her first book adaptation in the form of the Netflix series, as she regularly reveals in Instagram posts. Her "Bridgerton" series comprises eight novels (2000-2006), in the first volume "The Duke and I" (German title: "Wie conquered a Duke?", 2008) Daphne Bridgerton takes center stage.

The story of one of her siblings is told in each of the following volumes. Fans of the Netflix hit therefore have the hope that the love dramas of the other Bridgerton members will also be told season after season. Next up would be Lord Anthony Bridgerton's turn, who will be in charge of the family after the death of his father.

Set visit was "crazy experience"

Julia Quinn only served the series producers as a consultant when writing the script, as she revealed in an interview with "shondaland.com". Otherwise, she completely relied on Shonda Rhimes' TV experience. Quinn also visited the actors on the set, as she also showed on Instagram. She said in the "shondaland.com" interview: "It's the craziest experience to see something that started with just me and my computer and suddenly hundreds of people are involved."
