Meghan Markle: Father Thomas Markle is now unpacking

Duchess Meghan's (38) father, Thomas Markle (75), is apparently trying to put himself in a better light through a British TV documentary. The show will be broadcast on Wednesday. The contact between Prince Harry's (35) wife and her father is said to have broken off before the royal wedding in May 2018. At the time, it first emerged that Markle had staged paparazzi pictures himself. Then he had to cancel his participation in the wedding for health reasons. He reportedly had a heart attack. Markle later complained in several interviews that Meghan was excluding him from her life.

It is "almost a joke" that he heard about Meghan's pregnancy on the radio and not from his daughter, he now said in the documentary, according to British media reports. Markle apparently does not expect to see Meghan and Harry again: "You could see me one last time if you sink me into the ground. At the moment I don't think you would be thrilled to see me or want to talk to me."

Meghan Markle's father apologizes to the Queen

The documentary "Thomas Markle: My Story" was recorded for Channel 5 in October. For six days, a TV team is said to have visited the former light director in his house in Mexico. In advance excerpts reported by the British media, it can be seen that he talks about the difficult relationship with Meghan and regrets that he missed her wedding: "I would like to apologize to the Queen and the royal family," said the 75-year-old.

He described his portrayal in the media as "unfair". He decided to make the documentary "because I want everyone to know that I'm not as trashy as is said". And he also said, "I want Harry and Meghan to see this video and know that it is not fair."

Thomas Markle warns: "They are destroying this"

In an interview with Channel 5, Thomas Markle had previously criticized his daughter and her husband for no longer working as royals and wanting to be financially independent: "When you got married, you made a commitment and the commitment is to be part to be of the royal family and to represent the royal family, "he said. "This is one of the largest long-lived institutions of all time. They destroy it, humiliate it and make it shabby."

The 75-year-old also said about the "Megxit": "Every little girl wants to be a princess and she got it and now she throws it away … It looks like she's throwing it away for money."

Meghan, Harry and their eight-month-old son Archie are in Canada after retiring from the royal family, where they plan to stay most of the time in the future. The beginning of their new life there was already overshadowed by paparazzi recordings. After the snapshots showing Meghan walking with Archie, the couple threatened legal action.
