The "MTV Video Music Awards 2020" are now taking place in New York City. However, it is still unclear whether with or without an audience.
Now it's a done deal: This year's "MTV Video Music Awards" are taking place in New York City despite the corona pandemic. Andrew Cuomo (62), governor of the state of New York, announced this in a press conference. The gala is scheduled to take place on August 30 at the Barclays Center in the Brooklyn neighborhood. However, it is still unclear whether with or without an audience. An MTV spokesman had previously said that the award show would be held in the "cultural mecca of the world".
Cuomo added that they would work together with the organizer on a concept and would of course adhere to all safety and hygiene rules. After numerous cancellations of comparable award ceremonies, speculation about an out of the VMA was also made.
It is not yet known which stars will appear, but the music broadcaster revealed another detail. The "iconic performances" should not only be limited to the Barclays Center, but should also be distributed to "different, iconic locations" in all five New York boroughs – Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
