Naughty Dog is really done with Uncharted, while The Last of Us Part III remains possible

Driven by an HBO series that is conquering the hearts of the entire planet, the license The Last of Us seems to be the main concern of Naughty Dog at the moment, in particular through the production of a multiplayer game which should be released this year, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the post-apocalyptic saga. The studio has already announced that it is working on other projects in addition to this spin-off, but none seem to be related to Uncharted, which co-president Neil Druckmann at BuzzFeed confirms bluntly.

Naughty Dog is moving on

Uncharted was no longer a priority for a few years at Naughty Dog, but rumors here and there indicated that the studio could one day return to it. This will not be the case, at least not in the next few years, since Druckmann says the studio is really done with it Uncharted :

For us, Uncharted was a smash hit – Uncharted 4 was one of our best-selling games – and we were able to put our final brush on this story and say we’re done. We move on. »

Of course, the interested party does not dwell on the fact that another team could recover the license, whether for a new opus or a remake, as has been suggested by some insiders for a while. But Uncharted at Naughty Dog, it’s well and truly over.

The Last of Us Part III may not exist

It’s not quite the same speech for The Last of Us, on which Druckmann remains more evasive. He confirms again his position on The Last of Us Part IIIstating that this episode remains possible, but on condition of having the right ideas :

With The Last of Us, it’s up to us whether we want to continue or not… If we can’t find something we have a very strong ending with part 2 and that will be the end. »

We feel there the desire of Druckmann to move on, as he had expressed it recently by declaring to be interested in new forms of narration, more unusual for the studio. So let’s wait and see what Naughty Dog has in store for us beyond multiplayer gaming. The Last of Usbut it could well be that a new page is turning within the studio.
