Twins were born with an age difference of two years

Two years of age difference – and yet twins.

More

Cameron and Isabella are twins and yet have a two-year age difference – how is that possible?

What happened?

As strange as it sounds, the twins Cameron and Isabella are actually two years apart.

Then they are not twins, please do your research.

Yes, of course we thought so too – but in fact, despite their temporally separate births, the two are clearly twins, strange as that is.

Okay – how does it work now?

To do this, we have to go a bit further: The parents of the two, Karen and James, were finally lucky with artificial insemination after a long time with an unfulfilled desire for children: their son Cameron was born in 2018. To be on the safe side, they had more fertilized embryos frozen in order to have the option of a larger family. This is exactly what happened two years later: twin sister Isabella was born this year.

And the two are twins …

… because from a medical point of view they were conceived at the same time and with the same egg cells.

But … well, they also have very different birthdays?

However, and presumably there will be many, many discussions about the twin status of the two. For the parents, a quirk that they don't care about – they are just incredibly happy about their children. "We're happy to have a boy and a girl, even though any healthy child would have been wonderful to us. It really means everything to us," mother Karen told the Daily Mail.

Sounds like these twins will probably explain their whole life by explaining why they are twins and not "normal" siblings.

That could also change soon, the twin status may soon be history again.

How come

The family has frozen more embryos and wants to keep growing. "Hopefully we will have more children," says Karen. "I always wanted four of them." So it is quite possible that the twins will soon become quadruplets – with an age difference that should be a record.
