Upon his arrival in China, Kim Meylemans had to stay at the hotel specially reserved for Covid-19 positive athletes. While the twelve tests carried out before flying to the Chinese capital had all turned out to be negative, residues of the disease, which she contracted in early January, were detected on her arrival in the country.
After taking her pain patiently and training in her room as best she could, the Belgian thought her ordeal was over and that she was going to be able to find the rest of the Belgian delegation, the three PCR tests she had performed being negative. The Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee (COIB) was even delighted, this Wednesday morning, with his “liberation”.
But false joy. The Belgian skeleton specialist was again placed in solitary confinement for another seven days. Disillusioned by the situation, she expressed her sadness and desolation in tears on social networks. “Some of you have read that I had been released from the isolation center and thought I could finally return to the village and be treated there, in the worst case, as a ‘contact case’. But, to the surprise of my national Olympic committee, I was taken to another place, where I am currently and where I am supposed to stay seven days in isolation with two daily PCR tests”, she lamented with sobs in the voice.
If she is allowed to train, Kim Meylemans, very marked by these events, is not sure of aligning herself with the skeleton events, scheduled for February 11 and 12, and plans to withdraw. “I can go train on the track…but alone. I still don’t know if I will be able to go to the village. It’s very hard for me and I’m not sure I can bear to stay here for the next two weeks…”, she said.
