Pensions: what do the unions expect from the second phase of consultation?

Baptiste Morin, edited by Alexandre Dalifard

The resumption of discussions on pension reform begins on Monday. This time, the second phase of consultation will be devoted to solidarity measures. If Emmanuel Macron said he was “open” to a postponement of the age of departure to 64 years under conditions, on the side of the unions, none of them wants to hear about these measures.

Pension reform, round 2. The second phase of pension consultations begins on Monday. It will be devoted to solidarity measures such as the minimum old age and special schemes. The first phase concerned hardship and the employment of seniors. In the meantime, Emmanuel Macron said he was open to postponing the legal retirement age to 64 instead of 65 if the contribution period is extended. But no union wants to hear about these measures.

The request for a multilateral meeting

It is a position that all the unions share: whether it is a postponement of the legal retirement age or an extension of the contribution period, they all say it, it is neither one nor the ‘other. The CGT did not participate in the first phase of consultation and does not wish to comment on the second. Will she go? It still leaves room for doubt. And if she goes, she will defend a retirement at 60. The discourse is similar at Force Ouvrière.

For its part, the CFE-CGC wants to continue to work on the employment of seniors to sustain the pension system and it does not wish to open the subject of special schemes now. This discourse is shared by the CFDT. All the unions are asking for a multilateral meeting where the government has so far taken care to meet them only one by one. The government intends to reform at all costs, even if it means going through in force.
