Police warn of nasty Tiktok scammers – this is how you protect yourself

The police are warning of a new scam by fraudsters on Tiktok. One woman lost tens of thousands of euros.

A woman from the district of Kulmbach has become the victim of a new scamming scam on Tiktok. The 44-year-old woman lost tens of thousands of euros in the process, as the Upper Franconian police headquarters announced on Wednesday.

In the specific case, a fraudster on Tiktok contacted the woman on the social network in November 2021 and pretended to be a prominent hit star. With “skillful conversation”, the criminal then won the woman’s trust over a period of time and promised to want to produce a music album with her and other stars. However, he stated that he did not have the money for the project. “After several weeks of communication, the woman believed the fraudster and sent him a four-figure sum,” said the police.

Later, more precisely on December 17th around 12 noon, the woman finally handed over tens of thousands of euros for another alleged music project with another singer at the Bayreuth train station.

The woman then finally turned to the police, after which she became aware that she had been the victim of fraud. The Bayreuth criminal police have started the investigation and are now looking for witnesses to the handover of the money. The cash collector is described as follows.

  • about 50 years

  • blonde hair

  • between 160 and 165 centimeters tall

  • she smoked and was unkempt in appearance

  • she was wearing a salmon-colored jacket

People who could have seen the money picker on December 17, 2021 around noon at Bayreuth train station are asked to report to the criminal police in Bayreuth.

Finally, the police warns of this and similar forms of scamming and gives the following recommendations:
