Realme 7i smartphone emitted too many waves: an update fixes the problem


Pinned in France for poor management of its wave emission, the Realme 7i smartphone fell into line with a fix.

Owner of a Realme 7i smartphone? Take the time to check that your phone is up to date: the National Frequency Agency (ANFR) has indeed found that this model emits too many waves in certain circumstances. As a result, the authority, which depends on the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, demanded from the Chinese manufacturer that he publishes a fix.

The problem is with the specific absorption rate (SAR). It is an index that has become common (it can be found on the technical sheet of smartphones on display), which is expressed in watts per kilogram (W / kg). It is used to indicate the part of energy carried by electromagnetic waves which is absorbed by the human body.

Its reading can be understood as follows: the higher the value of the SAR, the greater the energy. To ensure the protection of the public, limits have therefore been enacted. There are three types of SAR: that for the head (maximum of 2 W / kg), that for the trunk (2 W / kg) and that for the limbs (4 W / kg). However, in the case of the Realme 7i, the SAR of the limbs was much too high.

Overshoots halved

An evaluation carried out by an accredited laboratory shows that the value for this third criterion reached 4.91 W / kg. As for the trunk SAR, it was certainly in the nails (1.96 W / kg), but really very close to the limit value. The patch that was released by Realme has, in practice, halved each value in question.

The member SAR is now 2.37 W / kg since the update, and 0.948 W / kg for the trunk. In principle, the update was applied automatically as soon as the smartphone found itself connected to the Internet, either via Wi-Fi or via a cellular data network (3G and 4G, but not 5G, as this model does not is not suitable for ultra-broadband mobile)

If you have any doubts, the ANFR provides a verification guide which also allows you to initiate a manual update to the most recent version of the system possible. The old firmware on which the DAS violation was detected is numbered RMX2193_11.A.02. The new version responds to the code name: RMX2191_11.C.13.
