The best deodorants at Stiftung Warentest & Co.: These are the winners and losers

ECO TEST

At the consumer magazine ÖKO-TEST, deodorants were put to the test twice. In the most recent test from June 2022, deodorant in cream form was scrutinized, in issue 10/2021 only roll-on deodorant was tested.

The test of 2022

For the 06/2022 issue, ÖKO-TEST tested 30 deodorant creams from different manufacturers. The result: Two thirds of the products score “good” or “very good”. The midfield is sparsely populated. Seven deodorant creams failed the test with the rating “insufficient”, including products from Nivea and Dove.

The winners include:

  • age Deodorant cream organic shea butter from Rossman
  • lavera Natural & Strong Deodorant Cream
  • Ben & Anna Deodorant Cream Persian Lime

The test of 2021

In its issue (10/2021), ÖKO-TEST magazine tested 52 roll-on deodorants for ingredients and effectiveness that do not contain aluminum. Among the products tested are cheap discounters and own brands, but also more expensive natural cosmetics products.

Among the test winners, in addition to more expensive branded products such as Dr. Hauschka, Speick and Weleda are also positioning their own inexpensive brands. Among the winners are:

  • Lidl Cien Pure Freshness 48h Roll-On Deodorant
  • Norma Elcurina Deodorant Roll-On Aloe Vera
  • Edeka Elkos Body 24h Fresh Deodorant Without aluminum

Due to critical ingredients such as PEG/PEG derivatives and halogenated organic compounds, a few deodorant products had to take a lot of criticism from the ÖKO-TEST experts. Four products received the grade “inadequate” and failed, including well-known brands such as dove (0% Aluminum Salts Deodorant Moisturizing Cream) and L’Oréal (Mixa 48h effectiveness against odor).
